M. sylvestris – Cheeses – Tall Mallow – High Mallow – This erect to spreading, bushy, hairy, woody based perennial, occasionally biennial from Northern Europe, Northern Africa, and Southwestern Asia grows 3-4′ feet tall and half as wide. It produces broadly heart shaped to rounded, shallowly 3 to 7 lobed leaves, are mid to dark green, to 4″ long. From late spring to mid autumn it bears axillary cluster of open funnel shaped, pinkish purple flowers, to 2 ½” across, with notched petals and darker purple veins.

Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun. Provide support, especially in rich soils. Perennials are often short lived, but will self seed.
