Anoectochilus – Jewel Orchids
There are 25 or so small species of orchids in this genus. Found in tropical Asia and Australia in deep shaded in areas with humidity on the rain forest floor. It’s highly demanding orchid, it need atmosphere that are saturated with moisture. Grown for its outstanding foliage of oval rather fleshy leaves with purple-green velvet crystalline surface and silver or gold veins. The flowers are crowded near the tops of erect stalks are rather small though the labellum may be prettily fringed and also has reflective surface cells.
They need warmed greenhouse with high humidity or grow in terrarium kept indoor’s out of direct sun so long as winter temperatures are maintain fairly high (see chart below). Plant in a pure organic mixture of leaf mound and pulverized bark in shallow pan with good drainage keep moist at all times. Seldom can be maintain for many years.
