Description

Notholirion –
There are about 6 species of bulbous perennial in this genus. They occur in open woodland, scrub, and rocky mountains from Afghanistan to Western China. They produce basal tufts of naroowly lance shaped leaves in winter, followed by racemes of nodding, trumpet or funnel shaped flowers in summer. Where marginally hardy, grow in a protected site outdoors. They grow best in areas with cool summers.
Plant 4-6″ deep in autumn in deep, humus rich, well drained soil in partial shade. Provide protection during periods of prolong cold.

N. campanulatum – This bulbous perennial from Northern Myanmar and Western China grows 32″ tall. It produces narrow, lance shaped, basal leaves, to 12″’ long. In summer it bears racemes of up to 20 pendent, deep crimson-purple, green tipped flowers, to 2″ long.
