Odontioda –
This hybrid genus of epiphytic, evergreen orchids derived from crosses between Odontoglossum and Cochlioda, they are vegetatively indistinguishable from Odontoglossum. They have ovoid, compressed egg shaped pseudobulbs each produce 2 strap like mid green leaves, to 10″ long. It bears erect to arching racemes, 12-18″ tall of 10-20 rounded to star shaped flowers to 3″ across, often ruffled or crisped edges, arise from the bases of the pseudobulbs at almost any time of the year, most commonly in spring. The flowers range in color from pastel shade to deep reds, and are often spotted or marked red or yellow.
Cool growing orchids (see chart below). Grow in small pots of epiphytic orchid potting mix, preferably made with fine grade bark to suit the fine root system. In summer, provide bright filtered light and high humidity, water and mist freely, and apply a fertilizer at every third watering. In winter, provide full light and water sparingly.
Prone to spider mites, mealy bugs, aphids, whiteflies, bacterial soft rot, Cercospora leaf spot, and a variety of viruses can cause damage.
