Description
Acer pectinatum – Acer laxiflorum – Acer taronense – This species from the Himalayas and central and western China has beautiful striped bark bearing shallowly lobed dull green leaves and pendulous spikes of winged fruit. It has 5 subspecies.
Subsp. forrestii – a favorite among gardeners. This is a deciduous tree grows 30’ feet tall and in breadth bears 3 oval lobed leafs. When leafs first open their tinged red green with younger shoots being reddish or purple. The leaves turn dark green with a paler under side during summer. In autumn the leafs turn orange-red. It also bears brown-green flowers.
