Description

Siberaea –

There is 2 species of deciduous shrubs, related to Spiraea, in this genus. They naturally occur on cliffs and rocky places in Southeastern Europe, and Asia. They produce alternate (occasionally appearing whorled on short, lateral shoots), smooth edged, linear-oblong to narrowly egg shaped, and mid or blue green. Racemes of tiny, 5 petaled cup shaped, white or yellowish green flowers are borne in summer, the flowers are usually male or female. Grow S. laevigata for its foliage and flowers in a mixed or shrub border.

Grow in moderately fertile, well drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil in full sun.

S. laevigata – S. altaiensis – This spreading, sparsely branched shrub from Siberia, Balkans and Western China grows 3-5′ feet tall and wide. From thick purple-brown shoots it carries oblong, bluish green leaves, to 4″ long. Tiny, cup shaped, white or yellowish green flowers, are borne in terminal racemes, to 5″ long, in early summer.
