There is a single species of grass, in this genus. It occurs from Western Minnesota to Mexico which grows in dry exposed sites. It can be used for lawns and banks.
Thrives with as little as 12–25″ of rainfall per year.
Sow 2lbs of seed per 1000 square feet. Fertilize with 1-2 lbs. nitrogen per 100 square feet
B. dactyloides – This grass form dense turf that can withstand hard wear and look fairly good with little summer watering. Leaves are gray green and grow to 4″ tall. Both male and female plants bear yellow to golden flowers.
