Proliferation

Proliferation

Common name

Proliferation

Causal agent

The main reason behind proliferation is a genetic mutation, which causes new flowers to grow from pre-existing central flowers. The mutation can also be caused by a virus, or physical stress, such as late frost, hail, and lightning.

Symptoms & Signs

Proliferation becomes apparent when the flower continues to grow, even though the growth period is over. It also shows new buds within a flower that has already bloomed. The first set of blooms is more commonly affected. Besides, not all flowers are affected, and those affected do not pose any risk to the plant.
