Draba –

There are about 300 species of annuals and mat or tight, cushion forming, evergreen or semi evergreen perennials, in this genus. They occur in scree and other rocky, mountainous and alpine areas in the arctic and Northern temperate regions and temperate South America. They have rosettes of mainly linear to ovate, oblong, or spoon shaped flowers, borne in terminal racemes, in spring or early summer. Grow in a rock garden, scree bed.

Grow in gritty, sharply drained soil in full sun. Protect from excessive winter rain.

Prone to aphids, spider mites, white rust, and mildew.

D. mollissima – This hummock forming, evergreen perennial from the Caucasus grows 3″ tall and 8″ wide. It produces rosettes of oblong, very hairy, gray-green leaves, to 1/4″ long, forming a dense, domed cushion. In late spring it bears tight racemes of 6-8 bright yellow flowers, to 3/8″ across, on stems to 3″ long.
