S. obassia – Fragrant Snowbell – Big-leafed Storax– This broadly columnar, deciduous tree from Northern China, Korea, and Japan grows 30-40′ feet tall and half as wide.It produces paddle shaped, dark green leaves, to 8″ long, distinctly toothed except toward the bases, and whitish down beneath, turning yellow in autumn.In early summer, it bears non-pendulous, slightly fragrant, bell shaped, white flowers, 1″ long, are borne in terminal racemes, 4-8″ long.

Grow in moist but well drained,
fertile, humus rich, neutral to acidic soil in full sun or partial shade with cool
moist summers.
