Description

C. mas – Cornelian Cherry – This vigorous, spreading, deciduous shrub or small tree from Central and Southeastern Europe and Western Asia grows 15-25′ feet tall and15′ feet wide.It produces short stalked, ovate, dark green, glossy, pointed leaves, to 4″ long, turning red-purple in autumn.In late winter or early spring it bears golden yellow flowers carried in small clusters or umbels, to 3/4″ across, without decorative bracts.Oblong-ellipsoid, fleshy, bright red fruit are produces in late summer and are edible when ripe.Loves the sun and is tolerant of drought and exposure, and resist many garden pests and diseases.

Grow in full sun or very light
shade, in neutral to acidic soil that’s rich, fertile, well drained soil,
though some of the multi stemmed shrub species will grow well in boggy ground.
