x Phylliopsis –
This hybrid genus of a dwarf evergreen shrub, derives from crosses between Phyllodoce breweri and Kalmiopsis leachiana. It is grown for their bell shaped flowers, borne in spring. It has dark brown bark. The stems are upright, carrying simple, oblong, alternate, glossy, dark green leaves, ½-1″ long. Grow in a shady site in a rock garden.
Grow in moderately fertile, humus rich, well drained, acidic, reliably moist soil in deep or partial shade.

x P. hillieri ‘Pinocchio’ – This upright shrub grows 8″ tall and 12″ wide. From branching, hairy shoots it carries oblong-obovate, glossy, dark green leaves, 3/4″ long, have edges slightly rolled under. In late spring it bears erect, terminal racemes of 5 lobed, widely bell shaped, bright pink flowers, to ½” across.
