Description
Acer buergerianum – Trident Maple – Three-toothed Maple – Native to eastern China, Korea and Japan this is a traditional subject for bonsai’s. Grows 30 feet tall with bark, which is flaky and pale gray. The 3 ½” inches long, dark green leaves have blue green undersides and have 3 short lobes close together at the tip, hence the common name. The leaves turn yellowish flushed red in autumn. This species performs well on poor soil. The winged fruits appear in abundant clusters that often persist through winter.
