There is a single species of a natural occurring hybrid bulbous perennial, between Chinodoxa forbesii and Scilla bifolia from South Turkey, in this genus. It produces semi erect, narrow, inversely lance shaped, dark green strap shaped, basal leaves. Grown for its short racemes of brilliant blue flowers in spring, it is suitable for a rock garden, trough, or raised bed, and for planting beneath trees or shrubs.
Plant bulbs 3″ deep in autumn, in any well drained soil in sun or partial shade.
x C. allenii ‘Fra Angelico’ – This bulbous perennial grows 4-8″ tall and produces basal leaves, 3-6″ long, and short racemes 2 ½-5″ long, of variable, star shaped, deep bright blue flowers, ½” across, with paler center, borne in spring.
