Y. elephantipes – Y. gigantean – Y. guatemalensis – Giant Yucca – Spineless Yucca – This large, upright shrub or usually small tree from South Mexico and Central America grows 30’ tall and 15-25’ feet wide although usually less in cultivation. From several trunks it produces narrowly lance shaped light to dark green leaves, up to 4’ long and 3” wide. The leaves are stiff, leathery and have toothed edges. On mature plants, pendent, bell shaped, white to cream flowers, up to 1 ½” long, are borne in dense, erect panicles, to 3’ feet long, from summer to autumn
Under glass, grow in soil based potting mix in full light. When in growth, water moderately and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly. Water sparingly in winter.
