Description

Brassocattleya –
These bigeneric hybrid genus between Brassavola and Cattleya, consisting of several hundred evergreen, epiphytic orchids derived from Central American species. They have thick, club shaped sheathed pseudobulbs and 1 or 2 semi rigid, oblong to oblong-lance shaped, leathery leaves. In spring or autumn it bears showy fragrant flowers, with frilled labellums, are carried in racemes arising from sheaths at the leaf bases, each scape produces 1 or 2 flowers.
Cool to intermediate growing orchids (see chart below). Grow in epiphytic orchid potting mix in containers. In summer, provide moist, partially shaded condition and water when mix is almost dry, applying fertilizer at every third watering. Keep lightly shaded and almost dry in winter. Divide when plant fills pot.
Prone to scale insects, mealybugs, spider mites, aphids, virus diseases, fungal diseases, and bacterial diseases.
