Description
F. imperialis – Crown imperial – This is one of the easiest Fritillaria to grow, it is a bulbous perennial from Southern Turkey, Kashmir, Iran and Afghanistan grows 3-5′ feet tall. It produces whorls of lance shaped, pale green leaves, 3-7″ long. In late spring and early summer it bears umbels of 3-6, sometimes up to 8. Bell shaped, nodding, orange, yellow, or red flowers, to 2 ½” long, crowned by a cluster of upright, leaf like bracts. The bulb have a distinctive skunky odor.
