M. virginiana – M. glauca – Swamp Magnolia – Swamp Laurel – Sweet Bay – This conical to irregularly spreading, deciduous or semi evergreen shrub or small tree from Eastern USA grows 20-30′ feet tall and 20′ feet wide.It produces elliptic to ovate, glossy, bright green leaves, to 6″ long, silvery beneath.From early summer to early autumn it bears almost spherical, deeply cup shaped, strongly lemon scented flowers, to 2 ½” across, with 6-9 creamy white petals, fading to yellow with age.

Grow in moist, well drained, humus rich, preferably acidic to neutral soil in sun or partial shade.Protect from strong and salty winds.
