Description

Mukdenia – Aceriphyllum –

There are 2 species of slowly spreading herbaceous perennials in this genus. They occur in woodland in Northeastern Asia. They have short, thick rhizomes and large, long stalked, palmately 5 to 9 lobed, toothed leaves. In spring it bears leafless panicles or racemes of small, bell shaped, 5 to 6 petaled white flowers. They are suitable for a woodland garden, and grow best in areas with cool, damp summers.

Grow in leafy, moist but well drained soil in light dappled or partial shade. Divide in spring.

Prone to snails and slugs.

M. rossii – Aaceriphyllum rossii – This perennial from Northern China and Korea grows 14″ tall and at least 16″ wide. It produces short, thick rhizomes and palmately 5 to 9 lobed, bronze tinted, mid green leaves, 6″ across. In spring it bears dense, short branched panicles of creamy white flowers, to 1/4″ across, held above the leaves.
