Olsynium –
There are about 12 species of fibrous-rooted, clump forming perennial in this genus. They occur in moist grassland from sea level to subalpine regions in North and South America. They have mostly basal, stem clasping, linear or lance shaped leaves and are grown for their nodding, trumpet shaped to bell shaped flowers, which are borne in spring. Grow in a shady rock garden.
Grow in moist, humus rich, moderately fertile soil in partial shade.
O. biflorum – Phaiophleps biflora – Sisyrinchium odoratissimum – This slender clump forming perennial from Argentina grows 8-12″ tall and 2″ wide. It produces upright stems with narrow, rush like leaves, 1 ½-9″ long. In late spring or summer, it bears cymes of usually 2, occasionally more, trumpet shaped fragrant, red veined, creamy yellow flowers, to 1″ long.
