Description

P. deltoides – Eastern Cottonwood – Necklace Poplar – Eastern Poplar – This fast growing, short lived, weak wooded, spreading, deciduous tree found from Eastern North America to Northern Mexico grows 80-100′ feet tall and 70′ feet wide.It has gray and deeply corrugated bark.It produces coarsely toothed, oval to triangular, glossy, bright green leaves, to 8″ long, which have a strong balsam scent when young.In early spring it bears red male or green female catkins, each to 4″ long.Produces copius “cotton”, which may become a nuisance.

Tolerant of any, except constantly
waterlogged soil, although best in deep, fertile, moist, but well drained soil
in full sun.
