P. tremuloides – Trembling Aspen – Quaking Aspen – American Aspen – This fast growing, spreading, deciduous tree from western North America grows 50′ feet tall and 30′ feet wide.It has smooth, gray bark with silvery markings.It produces rounded to ovate, finely toothed, glossy, dark green leaves, with glaucous undersides, to 2 ½” long, bronze when young, turning golden in autumn.Light winds cause quivering and rattling of the leaves.In early spring it bears gray-red male or green female catkins, both 2 ½” long.

Tolerant of any, except constantly
waterlogged soil, although best in deep, fertile, moist, but well drained soil
in full sun.
