Q. rubra – Q. borealis – Northern Red Oak – Red Oak – This fast growing, spreading, deciduous tree from Eastern North America grows 80-100′ feet tall and 70′ feet wide.It has smooth, shiny, grayish brown or dark gray bark and with age it develops shallow fissures.It produces oval to egg shaped, matte, dark green leaves, to 8″ long, cut into bristle tipped lobes and turn yellow to red-brown in autumn.It bears large hemispherical, dark red-brown acorns.Requires acidic soil.

Grow in deep, fertile, well drained soil in sun or partial shade, evergreen species prefer full sun.They tolerate alkaline soils unless stated otherwise.
