Description
V. canadensis – Rose Verbena – Creeping Vervain – This trailing or sprawling annual or short lived perennial from South central to southeast North America grows to 8-18” tall and 30-36” wide. The ascending branches carry egg to oblong shaped, irregularly toothed, hairless, mid green leaves, 3 ½” long. In summer through fall it bears dense, terminal panicles, 2 ½” across, of purplish pink flowers, ½” across.
‘Homestead Purple’ – has glossy leaves and bears rich red-purple flowers in summer, and is mildew resistant
Outdoors, grow in moist but well drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. Where marginally hardy, protect with dry winter mulch. Divide perennials in spring.
