P. atriplicifolia – Russian Sage – This long lived, upright deciduous subshrub or perennial from Afghanistan and Pakistan grows 4-5′ feet tall and at least 3′ feet wide. It produces ovate, deeply cut and lobed, silver-gray-green leaves, to 2″ long. In late summer and early autumn it bears small, tubular, pale lavender-blue flowers held in tall panicles, to 12″ long and last for 2 or 3 months.

These easily grown plants prefer well drained, poor to moderately fertile soil in full sun. They tolerate dry, alkaline soil and coastal conditions.
