C. horizontalis – Rockspray – Rock Cotoneaster – Rockspray cotoneaster – This popular, semi prostrate, spreading, semi evergreen from Western China grows 3′ feet tall and 5-8′ feet wide. From branches forming a herringbone like branching pattern that carry rounded to broadly elliptic, glossy, dark green leaves, to ½” long, turn bronze purple, orange, and red in autumn. In late spring it bears pink tinged white flowers, carried singly or in pairs, followed by spherical fruit, to 1/4″ long, which are scarlet.

deciduous shrub – Grow in moderately fertile, well drained soil, most will tolerate dry positions. Deciduous species prefer full sun. Large and medium sized evergreen thrive in sun or partial shade. In an exposed situations the may need protection from cold, drying winds. Most need little regular pruning but will tolerate hard pruning to produces tight hedges or to renovate.
