There is a single genus summer growing annual grass in this genus. It occurs in open habitats in the Mediterranean region. It has twisted, linear leaves and one sided panicles of attractively colored spikelets. Grow in a herbaceous, mixed, or annual border for its distinctive inflorescences, which are useful in both fresh and dried flower arrangements.
Grow in light, sandy, well drained soil in full sun.

L. aurea – This loosely tufted annual grass from the Mediterranean grows 12″ tall and 10″ wide. It has wiry stems and flat, twisted, broadly linear, pale green leaves, to 5″ long. From mid summer to early summer or winter to spring in warmer climates, it bears on sided, oblong panicles, to 3″ long, of densely packed, down swept, bristled spikelets, shimmering golden yellow or whitish green, becoming silvery, and often purple flushed when mature.
