C. montana – Mountain Bluet – Perennial Cornflower – This rhizomatous, mat forming perennial from mountains of Central Europe grows 18-30″ tall and 24″ wide. It produces ovate to broadly lance shaped, smooth edged to pinnatifid, sometimes slightly toothed, green leaves, 2 ½” long, woolly beneath, with densely woolly stems. From late spring to mid summer it bears blue flowers, 2″ across, with reddish violet florets. Often needs staking. Self seeds readily.

Grow in well drained soil in full sun. Divide in spring or fall.
