Description

P. densiflora – Japanese Red Pine – This slow growing, often multi trunk, broadly conical to rounded tree, becoming flat topped with age from Northeastern Asia and Japan grows 50-100′ feet tall and 15-25′ feet wide.It has reddish brown bark, flaky in the upper crown, gray and fissured at the bases.The whitish pink shoots have slightly resinous, ovoid buds.It produces slender, bright green leaves, 3-5″ long, are borne in pairs.It bears long ovoid, yellow brown female cones, 1 1/4-2 ½” long.Makes a popular bonsai specimen.

Grow these easily grown plants in
any well drained soil in full sun, but may need a symbiotic soil fungus to
assist nutrient uptake on poorer soils.
