Description
Rosa californica – California Wild Rose – This shrubby species rose found naturally occurring in the USA to Baja California west of the Sierra Nevada and grows 5-8′ feet tall and 4-6′ feet wide. From bristly shoots with stout prickles, it carries dull, mid green leaves, each composed of 5-7 ovate to broadly elliptic leaflets, up to 1 1/4″ long. In spring or early summer it bears clusters of 5 petaled, flat single, scented, lilac-pink flowers, that are 1 ½” across, with smaller flush of blooms in fall, before the round, orangey-red hips.
