Description
P. glauca – White Spruce – This slow growing narrowly or broadly conical tree from Canada and Northern USA grows 80-160′ feet tall and 10-12′ feet wide. It has ash gray bark, becoming scaly, and buff-white shoots. It produces four sided, blue green needle like aromatic leaves, ½-3/4″ long, are spreading at the sides of the shoots, overlapping above. It bears ovoid, green later light brown female cones that are 1 ½-2 ½” long.
Grow in any deep, moist but well drained, ideally neutral to acidic soil in full sun. It will not withstand polluted environments.
