Description
Acer rubesence – Snakebark Maple – Acer morrisonense – This tree from Taiwan is a fast grower to 60’ feet, but in cultivation is smaller. It has bark striped with slate gray and paler olive green. New stalks are reddish bearing 3-5 lobed leaves 6” wide turning yellow-amber and crimson in autumn. It has hanging winged fruit that may hold on to winter.
Several cultivars, variations include ‘Summer Snow’, ‘Summer Surprise’ which is smaller and less vigorous.
