Chamaedaphne – Cassandra –

There is a single species of a evergreen shrub, in this genus. It occurs in moist, peaty soil, in bogs and at pond margins in Northern temperate regions. It is grown for its alternate, glossy, dark green leaves and it’s urn shaped white flowers. C. calyculata is suitable for a woodland garden.

Grow in moist, peaty, acidic soil in sun or dappled shade.

Prone to rust, dieback, Exobasidium galls, and leaf spots.

C. calyculata ‘Nana’ – Leatherleaf – This compact, evergreen shrub grows 18″ tall and 30″ wide. From slender, arching shoots it carries obovate to oblong, leathery, glossy, dark green leaves, to 2″ long, scaly beneath.  It freely bears small, urn shaped white flowers in arching, one sided, leafy racemes, 1 ½-5″ long.
