Olsynium –
There are about 12 species of fibrous-rooted, clump forming perennial in this genus. They occur in moist grassland from sea level to subalpine regions in North and South America. They have mostly basal, stem clasping, linear or lance shaped leaves and are grown for their nodding, trumpet shaped to bell shaped flowers, which are borne in spring. Grow in a shady rock garden.
Grow in moist, humus rich, moderately fertile soil in partial shade.
O. douglasii var. album- Sisyrinchium douglasii var. album – S. grandiflorum var. album – This clump forming perennial from Western North America grows 6-12″ tall and 4″ wide. It produces upright, slender, rush like stems sheathed with linear, grayish green leaves, to 4″ long. In early spring it bears nodding, bell shaped, satin textured, white flowers, to 3/4″ long, are held in several terminal spathes, each with 1-4 flowers.
