Description

Q. alba – White Oak – American White Oak – Stave oak – Stone Oak – Tanner’s Oak – This spreading, deciduous tree from Eastern North America grows 60-100′ feet tall and wide. It has peeling, fissured, pale ash gray to brown bark with lifting plates between parallel fissures. It produces egg shaped, deeply lobed, bright green leaves, to 9″ long, often pink tinged when young, and turn purple-crimson in autumn. Solitary acorns are ovoid-oblong. Grows best in acidic soil.

Grow in deep, fertile, well drained soil in sun or partial shade, evergreen species prefer full sun. They tolerate alkaline soils unless stated otherwise.
